July 3 - Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus

Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is the main holiday of the Belarusian statehood, which is celebrated annually on July 3. On this day in 1944, the Red Army liberated Minsk. Minsk residents greeted their liberators with flowers, and music played in the streets. And although the city was wounded, and many of its houses were shrouded in flames, joy and happiness shone on the faces of Minsk residents. For the skillful and heroic actions shown during the 1944 Minsk operation, 52 Soviet military formations and units were awarded the honorary title "Minsk".

The decision to celebrate Independence Day on July 3, the day of the liberation of the capital of Belarus from German occupation, was taken during the 1996 republican referendum and approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 1 dated December 11, 1996 "On the establishment of a state holiday ‑ Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus". This holiday is revered by all Belarusians as a memory of those who defended the independence of their homeland on the battlefields. This day unites all those who remember the history of their country, who with their work and talent make a daily contribution to the prosperity of their native land.
