2. The official year of the appearance of handball is considered to be 1898, and Denmark is the homeland. Danish football players in winter, in order not to lose their shape, began to play football, but with their hands, developing endurance and training elements of martial arts.
3. The modern name comes from the English words "hand" - hand and "ball" - ball.
4. It is not known exactly when the hand ball game first appeared in Russia, but it was first written about in 1922. Unfortunately, she did not make a proper impression, and interest in her faded until 1946.
5. The rules of the game of handball are the same for men and women. The team consists of 16 players, while no more than 7 people can be on the court at the same time. The goal of each team is to throw as many balls as possible into the opponent's goal exclusively with their hands.
6. In the early 1990s, Italian coastal cities began playing "hand ball" on sandy beaches. Today, beach handball is actively played in more than 40 countries around the world.
7. In the USA, they came up with the idea of crossing handball with rugby, and the players were armed with tasers to make it easier to take the ball away.
8. A curious incident occurred in the German city of Wittislingen, where the Sri Lankan handball team came to train in 2004. At first, all 23 athletes trained regularly, but one day they just disappeared. In one of the rooms, the police found a note, from the contents of which it became clear that the whole team decided not to return to their homeland, but to go to France for permanent residence. The German prosecutor's office sent an urgent request to Sri Lanka, but the response amazed everyone. The government reported that there is not a single handball team in the whole state.
