Every year, Yoshkar-Ola hosts the International Competition and Festival of Dance Performers and Choreographers "Mikhail Murashko invites friends". It is attended by choreographic groups, individual performers and choreographers in the following nominations: "Folk dance", "Russian dance", "Mari dance", "Folk stylized dance", "Folklore dance", "Children's story dance", "Historical and household dance", "Characteristic dance", "Classical dance", "Ballroom dance", "Modern dance", "Variety dance", "Variety sports dance", "Show dance".
The program of the competition-festival includes a grand opening with the participation of the Mari El State Dance Ensemble and leading creative teams of Russia, competitive performances in nominations in six age groups, a gala concert and an award ceremony for the winners.
