Honey Spas is the first of three August holidays called Spas. He is often called that — the First Savior. The First Savior (August 14) is followed by Apple Savior (August 19) and Nut Savior (August 29) — all these holidays fall on the same dates every year. Honey Spas is so called because by this time, according to the observations of our Slavic ancestors, honey in the hives ripens completely and it's time to collect it.
Since ancient times in Russia it was believed that on the day of the Honey Savior it is necessary to collect all the honey: if this is not done, it will be carried away by other bees. Honeycombs with the richest harvest of honey were carried to the church for consecration. The consecrated honey was then divided into three parts: the beekeeper left one in the family, presented the other to the priests, shared the remains with the beggars and treated the children.
