The week of the Samara region of the AMAKS Hotels&Resorts chain

Within the framework of the "Year of National Culture" of the AMAKS Hotels&Resorts chain, the past week was dedicated to the Samara region, namely, the city of Togliatti, where our next object is located – the AMAKS Jubilee Togliatti Hotel.

And by tradition we want to share with you some interesting facts about this city

Togliatti is the largest city in Russia that is not an administrative center.

At first, the future city of Togliatti was called Stavropol. To distinguish this city from Stavropol in the Caucasus, it was called Stavropol-on-Volga. However, this name has never been official.

On August 28, 1964, the city was renamed Tolyatti in honor of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Italy, Palmiro Tolyatti, who died on August 21, 1964 during a trip to the Crimea.

In Togliatti, Lada cars are produced. The name comes from the Zhiguli Mountains, which are located on the opposite bank of the Volga.

The automobile manufacturing plant (JSC AvtoVAZ) was built in 1966. It was a joint project with the Italian concern FIAT. It is here that most of the machines are assembled, which are then sold in our country, which makes Togliatti one of the most important industrial centers on a national scale. For decades, AvtoVAZ has held the palm of superiority among the industrial enterprises of Togliatti.

Togliatti is the second largest city in Russia, after Voronezh, in which there is no tram, and the largest in which there has never been one.

Tolyatti Railway Station is a station of one train. Yes, in Togliatti there is only one daily train 66-65 Togliatti - Moscow. There are no more trains to Togliatti.

In the middle of the XX century, a fair part of the city had to be moved to a new location, since the construction of a dam for a hydroelectric power station involved flooding a vast territory.

We invite everyone to visit this beautiful and rich in history region, and where to stay, of course, you know – in AMAKS "Yubileynaya" Togliatti.
