It is an example of the search for new forms of organization of housing and everyday life of workers in the Soviet architecture of the 20-30s. One of the first houses of this type in Belarus, later a similar house was erected in Bobruisk.
The house-commune became the first building in Gomel equipped with an elevator.
During the German occupation of Belarus, the German Gestapo was located in the house. In 1942, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Great October Revolution, Soviet patriots hoisted a red flag over the house, which was the tallest pre-war building in Gomel. During the Great Patriotic War, the building was destroyed. During the restoration in 1946-1949, the former planning structure was adopted as the basis.
In 2008-2010, the last, at the moment, reconstruction of the building was carried out: its walls were reinforced with metal piles and bricks, double-glazed windows were replaced, other works were performed. Currently, the building is used as a residential building; a number of shops and organizations are located on its ground floor.
