The Palace of Culture of Railway Workers (Palace of Culture Chygunachnikai) is a house of culture located on the Forecourt in Gomel (very close to our hotel), an architectural monument of the 30s of the XX century. It is an object of the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus.
The history of the Palace of Culture in Gomel is inextricably linked with the local railway junction. In 1918, a railway workers' club was opened in the city, which was housed in a small wooden barracks. It did not last long — it was burned by the revolutionary-minded masses, but already in 1920 it was restored and named after the leader of the Russian revolution, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
During the Great Patriotic War, the club building partially collapsed. By 1950, it was restored according to the project of architect Igor Pestryakov, acquiring its modern look.
In the early 90s, due to the emergency condition, the Palace of Culture was closed, and since 1992, the reconstruction of the building began, which lasted for almost 20 years. On May 6, 2011, the grand opening of the renovated Palace of Culture on the Station Square, timed to the Victory Day, took place.
Currently, the Palace of Culture of Railway Workers is part of the Cultural and Sports Complex of the Gomel branch of the Belarusian Railway.
