The museum was opened in 2004 on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
On April 26, 2005, the opening of the full museum complex took place, in the solemn ceremony of which the President of the Republic of Belarus took part.
The stationary exposition of the museum is dedicated to reflecting the events of the military history of the Gomel region from ancient times to the present day. The exposition is located in eight halls on two floors of the museum building.
On the open site of the museum there is an exhibition of military equipment of the twentieth century. more than 40 units, a local exposition "Partisan town", a local exposition in an ambulance car, also a pneumatic shooting range operates on the open site.
Among the latest additions to the Gomel Regional Museum of Military Glory are the amphibious assault vehicle - "BMD–1", the anti-aircraft self-propelled gun ZSU-23-4 "Shilka", the T-72A tank mod. 1979, 120-mm CAO 2S9 "Nona-S", 82-mm mortar 2B9M "Cornflower", a mobile reconnaissance point PRP-3 (based on the BMP-1), which can be seen in the open area.
On the basis of the Gomel Regional Museum of Military Glory, in 2010, a new exposition dedicated to the history of the fight against crime in the Gomel region in the 1917 – 2000s was created - the ”MUSEUM OF CRIMINOLOGY". Here you can see samples of weapons, police ammunition and equipment, fragments of the offices of a forensic expert and investigator of the late twentieth century, a motorcycle ”Ural” equipped with signaling and sound devices, as well as forged documents and banknotes seized from criminals, a set of lock picks for opening locks.
Visitors can learn about various examinations conducted by law enforcement agencies to solve crimes.
