In the central part of the city, near the Sozh embankment, there is an active Old Believer St. Elias Church - a monument of Belarusian wooden architecture of the second half of the XVIII century. Interestingly, there were Old Believers' temples here before him, too. However, both were dismantled: Spassov in 1737, and the church of the Prophet Elijah installed in its place in 1793. The current temple was erected in 1773-1774 and consecrated in September 1794. In the first half of the XIX century, there was a mixed male and female monastery of Old Believers at the temple. It is believed that Yemelyan Pugachev came here to pray. Over the years, the church was a co-religionist, but it returned to the Old Believers, once it was briefly closed, but even in Soviet times it remained active. The complex consists of 3 parts – a babynets, a middle log house and a pentagonal altar apse.
