
The Gavriil Kharitonovich Vashchenko Art Gallery in Gomel is named after the People's Artist of the Republic of Belarus, professor, Academician of Painting, who created many paintings, graphic and monumental works.
The art gallery was opened on February 5, 2002 in recognition of the city's gratitude for the gift of a collection of 50 paintings by the artist, which became the basis of the gallery's foundation. The artist's wife, Matilda Vashchenko, gave the city a collection including 70 works by contemporary Belarusian artists, friends and students of Gavriil Kharitonovich. Currently, the gallery's collection is constantly replenished with works by exhibiting artists and has about 400 exhibits.
In addition to exhibition activities, various cultural events for various segments of the population are constantly held on the basis of the gallery. The lecture hall of the gallery is equipped with multimedia equipment, lectures, meetings with artists, celebrations and events dedicated to various holidays and anniversaries are held.
