Category #nashgorod - Church of St. Michael the Archangel, Gomel

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in the village of Vylevo has been known since at least the second half of the XVIII century. It is also known that this temple was repeatedly reconstructed and rebuilt, and by the beginning of the last century it was finally demolished due to dilapidation. The existing temple was built in 1909, after which it remained active even during the period of religious persecution initiated by the Soviet government. And yet, how did the Church of St. Michael the Archangel get to Gomel? — The fact is that the village of Vylyovo was abandoned after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant due to radiation contamination. Already at the beginning of the two thousandth century, the temple was moved from Vylevo to Gomel, restored and reopened for worship. It is worth noting that the radiation background inside and outside the church is normal, so you can safely visit this ancient architectural monument.
