The monument, popularly called "The Janitor", appeared in 2008. It is located in the city center, next to the central market. The idea to embody the work of broom workers in metal was submitted directly by the mayor of the city.
The author of the monument is a well–known sculptor in Gomel V. Andriyanov. In the composition, you can see a woman of about forty who stopped to rest while cleaning the territory. There is a broom nearby, a janitor's working tool. In her left hand is a small mirror, into which she looks, wishing to remain beautiful in the image of a janitor.
The main idea embodied in the janitor's monument, as well as the monument to a plumber climbing out of a sewer manhole that appeared around the same time, is as follows: all professions are important, even utility workers. The monument only means that society notices and recognizes these professions. Even if they are not too prestigious.
Most often, tourists notice this sculpture by chance while walking through the central part of Gomel. It is not one of the main city attractions, but it is remembered for its uniqueness, form of execution and way of revitalizing the urban landscape.
